The Perfume Lady Diana Wore on Her Wedding Day – Houbigant Quelques Fleurs L’Original

My dad was a huge fan of Lady Diana—so much so that he gave me Diana as my middle name, lol. I still remember how he would always watch the news about her, mesmerized by her elegance, kindness, and resilience despite all the media frenzy and scandals. Growing up, I read so many books about her. She truly became one of my earliest inspirations.

Years later, when I started exploring niche perfumes—those lesser-known treasures outside the mainstream designer brands—I came across a French perfume house called Houbigant. Not many people talk about it, but that made me even more curious.

Then I read that Lady Diana wore Quelques Fleurs L’Original Extrait de Parfum on her wedding day.

I knew I had to try it.

Since I wasn’t sure the extrait version would suit me (it can be quite rich and intense), I chose the Eau de Parfum instead—a more wearable concentration for everyday use. I've had this perfume for a few years now, and I think it’s finally time to share my thoughts on this timeless floral masterpiece.

First Impression: A Floral Symphony

The first time I wore Quelques Fleurs L’Original was during winter. I remember being a little surprised—because I’d never experienced anything like it before. It was lush, romantic, and deeply enchanting. It felt like being embraced by an elegant bouquet of fresh flowers, layered with complexity and a nostalgic, vintage charm.

It immediately gave me a sense of familiarity, like a forgotten memory. A true classic floral perfume that speaks softly but confidently.

Despite being rich in floral notes, it's not overwhelming. In fact, it opens fresh and clean, almost soapy—but in the most luxurious way.

The Notes: Over 15,000 Flowers in One Ounce?

“Quelques Fleurs” means some flowers in French—but this scent is everything floral. They say it takes more than 15,000 flowers and 250 rare ingredients to create just one ounce of this Eau de Parfum. And honestly, I believe it.

It features:

  • Flowers like Jasmine, Tuberose, Lily of the Valley, Orange Blossom, Rose, Carnationand Ylang Ylang

  • Powdery florals like Violet and Iris

  • Elegant greens and citrus like Clove, Bergamot, Galbanum, Tarragon, and Lemon

The green notes in the opening give it that fresh, crisp, and almost soapy feeling that I adore—it smells clean, like a luxury bath in an old French château.

As it settles, the scent melts into a powdery and sensual base of:

  • Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Musk, and Tonka Bean

The dry-down is like skin, but elevated—soft, powdery, comforting, with a regal touch from all the white florals. I feel effortlessly elegant when I wear it.

Longevity & Sillage

With the EDP formulation, Quelques Fleurs L’Original lasts really well on my skin. It has a moderate to strong sillage—people notice it, but it never feels intrusive or “too much.” I find that the dry-down blends beautifully with my skin chemistry, making me smell clean, graceful, and radiant all day.

It’s definitely not a trendy scent, but that’s what makes it so special. It’s classic, sophisticated, and never goes out of style.

How I Wear It

I love pairing this perfume with a crisp white shirt and blue jeans for that effortless chic look. But it also works beautifully with a soft, white dress for something more romantic. It adapts so well to different occasions while always adding a touch of elegance.

If you love classic floral perfumes like Chanel No. 5 but want something more radiant and floral-forward, I think you’d really appreciate Quelques Fleurs.

I can see this becoming my signature scent later in life—maybe after my olfactory journey calms down a little, haha.

A Gift Worth Sharing

My mom actually loves this scent too. I’ve made it a tradition to give her a new fragrance every year for Mother’s Day, and Quelques Fleurs L’Original is one she always brings up. So, when I travel to Europe again, I’ll definitely get another bottle for her—and maybe a few other Houbigant perfumes to try!

A Beautiful Legacy

A little fun fact:
Quelques Fleurs L’Original was originally created in 1912 in Grasse, France, and it’s still produced in the same laboratory where Jean-François Houbigant created perfumes for royal families in the 18th century. It’s quite amazing to wear a piece of perfume history—especially one that Lady Diana herself wore on such an iconic day.

Wearing Quelques Fleurs L’Original feels like stepping into a timeless garden—one that transcends trends and generations. There’s a quiet elegance to it, a refined aura that lingers softly on the skin like a memory. For me, it’s more than just a fragrance—it’s a small, fragrant thread that connects me to my dad’s admiration for Princess Diana, to the classic beauty of French perfumery, and to the women I cherish, like my mom. It’s rare to find a scent that feels both deeply personal and universally elegant—but this one does. And perhaps one day, when my olfactory journey comes full circle, this will be the scent I choose to carry with me—always.

If you're curious to experience this timeless floral treasure yourself, I’ve shared a little decant from my bottle here, just a few drops of elegance for those who'd love to try it. (Indonesia only)
